Domaine Schoffit Rangen Clos St Theobald Grand Cru Gewurztraminer & Riesling

In the pantheon of great Alsatian winegrowers, Domaine Schoffit continues to maintain a somewhat confidential profile, which for us & you is a good thing!

You may or may not of heard of the exceptional Grand Cru site, Rangen, in Thann. Its seriously steep south facing slope of volcanic soil merits a mention in the same breath as any of the top vineyard sites in the world of wine! So steep it was abandoned for a while as it was so difficult to farm! (see picture)

The Rangen site producers wine of true terrior & varietal which in tale, gives the wine originality, which is what we want from from the worlds greatest wines, This for sure is one of the wines of the world!

We have been buying these wines for a few years now in small amounts, wherever they end up we always get great feedback from customers once they open them, last week we had a customer raving about the 2013 Riesling, sadly we don't have any really old bottles anymore.. but we have just taken delivery of the latest releases, celler worthy wines indeed or just a treat anytime!

I looked back at my tasting notes from a few years back on the Gewurztraminer..

As soon as i poured it into the glass I knew I was in for a treat, rich gold in colour with green hues, extremely aromatic on the nose, honeysuckle & baked peach & in classic Gewurtz form, hints of rose.

An explosion on the palate soon follows, loaded with Lychee,White peach, citrus fruits, hints of white pepper & ginger, with a concentration rarely found in a wine. All this held together by a underlying lick of acidity.This wine is awesome now, and will get better over the next 20 years or so for sure! 

These really are tremendous wines, wines to own & drink with love, if you would like to get your hands on some please do give us a shout!
